About the Military!

The Department of Defense provides the military forces needed to deter war and ensure our nation’s security. The six branches comprised of 2.87 million military and civilians, the U.S. government is America's largest employer.

Requirements of the Military

It is a big decision to join the military, and before you begin this Service Life Track, it is important to be sure you meet the following requirements for enlisting. Those with a desire to serve should:
 

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or a lawful permanent resident with a "Green Card"

  • Be 17 years of age with parental consent 
    or 18 years 

  • Have a high school diploma or GED

  • Pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test

  • Pass the military entrance medical exam 

  • Meet weight limit requirements
